The product
Every mug is one of a kind
Made from fine white stoneware in a small Portuguese pottery with more than 40 years of ceramic craft. Each mug is thrown first, then engraved by hand with your city and fired at 1160 °C. It is then hand-dipped in a reactive glaze and fired a second time. The glaze runs and settles differently every time, a finish shaped by the fire that makes each piece unique.

What cafés ask us first.
Which colours or glazes are available?
For the first batch only Speckled White, a warm off-white with mineral speckling. We'll develop further glazes and designs together with you after that: you stand behind the counter and know best what your guests take home.
What happens if none of them sell?
Then it costs you nothing. We collect the mugs free of charge, and know more than we did before.
Doesn't the mug displace other revenue?
No. An espresso tonic on the menu takes revenue from the espresso, so little of it is new. A mug competes with nothing on your menu: new category, same guest, same rent.
Can we have our café's name engraved instead of “Berlin”?
Yes. Thanks to the close work with our Portuguese supplier this is possible from relatively small quantities. Just tell us what you have in mind and we'll tell you what's feasible.
Can we design tableware for daily use as well?
Yes. Mugs, plates and every other stoneware item a café needs can be produced to your shape and glaze.
How did Cafe Voyager come about?
Be it Buenos Aires, Tokyo or Lisbon: the first thing we look for in a new city is good independent cafés with a character of their own. Discovering a city café by café is often the best part of a trip. There has only never been anything to take home from it.
Who is behind it?
LUMRIA GmbH, a Swiss company. Gavera is ours too, a stoneware brand we built mainly through e-commerce. What sells and what doesn't, we learned there. So far we are mostly at home in German-speaking Europe, next across the continent. Everything else is in the legal notice.
